The United Nations Sustainable DevelopmentGoals (SDGs) provide one of the world’s most important frameworks forunderstanding global development today.

The UN SDG Youth Competency CertificationProgramme is built around the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goalsand offers thematic learning and certification pathways across different globaltopics. The programme aims to help young people develop a more structuredunderstanding of the real world and build stronger awareness of the future atan earlier stage.

Each topic is offered as an independentshort course and may be joined separately.

SDG14/15 Biodiversity and the Future ofEcosystems

Why are species disappearing from theEarth?

Ocean pollution, deforestation, coralbleaching and species extinction are reshaping the planet’s ecosystems. Why arecertain species disappearing at such a rapid pace? How does marine biodiversityaffect humanity’s future? Why are governments and societies rethinking therelationship between people and nature?

From plastic pollution and rainforest lossto marine ecosystems and endangered species, human activity is transforming theEarth’s ecological systems at an unprecedented rate. What environmental changesmay emerge over the coming decades, and how will humanity respond to thebiodiversity crisis?

This topic explores global biodiversitytrends, marine and forest ecosystems, ecological change driven by humanactivity, international conservation cases, and how young people can betterunderstand future environmental challenges.

Each topic runs for 3 weeks and includes:

  • 4 live online sessions
  • 1 online thematic seminar

Programme Format

The programme is delivered fully online andis open to participants globally. Session recordings will be available.
